to help the people effected by the Earthquake in Turkey
Our benefit held on February 19, to offer earthquake relief to the citizens of Turkey raised more than $19,000. I am amazed and humbled by the generosity of this great community. Thank you to each and every one of you who contributed your dollars and time for this cause, which hits especially close to home for my family and me.
Special thanks to the Algonquin Rotary Club volunteers who managed the raffles. Your continued show of support is so appreciated.

General Manager, Ziya, traveled to Turkey to hand deliver the donation to the Turkish American Cultural Alliance. While he was there, he documented all of the ways your money was used to assist the people of Turkey in the aftermath of this devastation. See below for updates from his travels.
Background
On February 6, 2023 a catastrophic and deadly earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and western Syria. A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit near Gaziantep, Turkey, in the early hours, followed by another 7.5-magnitude tremor just after midday. The quakes caused widespread destruction in southern Turkey and northern Syria and were felt in nearby countries.
Updates
We have accomplished quite a bit in our first two weeks in Turkey. It’s been one month since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated the country. Although much progress has been made, there is still much to do.
During our first week, we helped a mother and her two children, ages 12 and 15 years old, move into a condo. We bought all of the supplies they will need in their new home using the donation money we raised from the Port Edward benefit. Also during the first week, we also built and bought supplies for a prefabricated Support and Treatment Center. There, children can play and work on activities in a safe environment and heal from the trauma they experienced because of the earthquake.
During Week 2 of our trip, we sponsored another family to help them set up their new home. They appreciate a place of their own to eat, sleep, and recover.
We have been humbled by this trip and are thankful for the opportunity to offer firsthand assistance to our Turkish friends. We appreciate your support and positive thoughts.
